The heat transition demands action. Now. In the quest for sustainable heating, we are looking to our Frisian waters.
Our story
Day by day, the sun warms our water. If we can 'harvest' this heat, we will have enough heat to cover 35% of the Frisian heat demand. Aquathermie, or 'wetterwaarmte' in Frisian, is the technique of extraction, storage and distribution of heat from water.
Now is the time to choose sustainable heat. In Fryslân, the solution lies at our feet: the water.
We are making Fryslân a warm bath for everyone who wants to get started with aquathermy.

Governments
Aquathermy is an opportunity to contribute to the 2050 climate goals without major interventions in the landscape. Wetterwaarmte is there for cooperation between Frisian authorities who want to accelerate heat initiatives.

Our goal
"In Fryslân, we are accelerating the heat transition by broad application of collective heat networks and aquathermy in the built environment and facilitating local initiatives and ownership."
in 2030...
Moreover, by 2030, Fryslân will be a frontrunner region for collective aquathermy systems in Europe. A central desk has been set up to help local initiatives move forward and an active learning network of 50 organisations strengthens knowledge sharing and cooperation around Wetterwaarmte.
